The post-Eid al-Fitr atmosphere is still palpable, with a significant portion of the population preparing to return to their workplaces after the homecoming (mudik) period. Amidst this moment, Pati Regency's signature dish, Sego Gandul, has once again come into the spotlight, not only as a culinary tourist attraction but also within the context of national economic data collection.

Sego Gandul, a rice dish with a broth resembling beef stew with a touch of curry, has long been known as Pati's culinary icon. This dish typically features tender slices of beef or offal, drenched in a thick and distinctive gravy, and uniquely served on a plate lined with a circular-cut banana leaf (samir). Its deliciousness is further enhanced by the addition of Pati's crispy tempeh and soft potato patties.

Beyond its popularity, the Sego Gandul culinary business falls under the scope of the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026), specifically within Category I, which includes Accommodation and Food and Beverage Service Activities. This means that all businesses in this sector, including Sego Gandul food stalls and restaurants, will be part of the comprehensive data collection in SE2026.

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), through its social media account, has informed that the 2026 Economic Census aims to #RecordIndonesia'sEconomy comprehensively. This data collection is expected to provide an accurate overview of the contribution of the culinary sector and MSMEs to the national economy.

On another note, BPS also conveyed an appeal to the public undertaking the return journey (arus balik) to remain cautious, maintain their health, and prioritize safety on the road.

"Ubur-ubur ikan lele.. Mudik balik dulu le.."
